Writing Workshops in First Year Seminars

If you want some support in communicating with students about your expectations for their writing, and you want to encourage students to try working with writing tutors at the writing centre, consider booking a writing workshop for your class. You should contact the coordinator of the Writing Tutorial Service, Katie Bryant: Katie_Bryant@carleton.ca

The workshops are active-learning sessions focused on teaching students skills that directly relate to the requirements for your class, incorporating your class materials. When you book your session or series of sessions, Roxanne will talk with you about your writing assignments and the concerns about student writing which you would like to address. Closer to the workshop date, the tutor conducting the workshop will get in touch with you to build on that initial conversation and plan the workshop. Students are more likely to try working with a tutor after meeting a friendly person from the writing centre who helps to facilitate the first year seminar conversation about academic writing and writing expectations.
